I watched this animation on Netflix last year.
I really like the sense of sight and the soundtrack of entire work, the connections between each scene of vibe and the emotion are on point, the characters’ persona are very vivid and elaborate. Although some comments consider that the works just surrounds with emotions, I think the significance of antiwar still very strong. Through the transition of the emotion, it shows no matter which side of the war, people have the person they want to meet again and the aspect of soft heart, so of course they all have the core of the work — which main female character is lack of and always looking for — emotion. Therefore, we cannot say that which character is a really villain, many of them hurt people, but they get hurt too, no matter in physical or mental. Speaking of antiwar, I think it is very interesting that we can see there are a lot of film and literature works in Japan from postwar till now, it’s very seldom to see in Taiwan, at least if the background is postwar, most of them revolve around February 28 incident and the topic which is connected or extended, the vibe of two of them is extremely different. I think the postwar society needs to rebuild its essentially and mentally deservedly, but regarding the aggressor, many people even they didn’t undergo the war, their heart are also broken, they also need to be healed. Sufferings not only exist at the victim of aggression, but also face negate and criticize themselves and a verity of reflexive thinking. And the process not only have to face the many different kind of dilapidated yearning, the deeper emotion is to fall into the pressure of launching a punitive expedition by themselves as main female character, these emotions also need carding and relief, that’s why there are a lot of works sprout. It’s not just because want to show the aspect of introspection, bringing the salvation and pacify for this emotion and society, people are just able to move on gradually. Compare with sign the peace treaty, I consider that no matter which side, the final ending is real healing, this is my answer of my doubt. And the whole work is the process of the main female character heals others and heals herself.

And the most important and appear frequently sentence is “Aisiteru.” I know it’s a very heavy meaning of Japanese people, therefore I really like this kind of arrangement particularly, from the extremely illiteracy of emotions to the profoundest “Ai si te ru,” main female character experience the strike of collapsing and falling apart and the collide of exploring herself at two terminal of the spectrum. This make me think of the training of anthropology, when do we (human being) start to aware “I/me” this concept? This is the first inquiry. And when do we aware “I is I” and use “I” to represent “I”? Connecting with the topic, when did people feel love and be loved? And when did they understand the meaning of “I love you”? At now — which timing I can easily say I love you, still usually feel that “I love you” can’t completely express my love, so the language is a very interesting and fascinating existence, we create it and give it the meaning, but also let us left speechless by restricting when we need it.

And after we can use it unrestrained and blend it harmoniously, do the words/language be a smooth talker instead of us? Or, at this present times that the words can be the weapon, will the words or literature betray us?

At the very last of the last, all the beautiful letters flying in the sky and connecting all the misgiving, disturbed, expectation, inflexibility, affectionateness and words, the main female character which can move on finally makes me think of the sentence, “I just left you, but I’ve never left you.”

And I want to throw a question after writing the memo, what I think about is, I observe that no matter on the propaganda and marketing, or the real setting, CH postal service company make their flagship product(?) as beautiful doll, all the doll just including the very beautiful and charming girls, I want to know that does it refer to the Japanese custom industry service? Or relate to the aesthetics of 美少女 culture in ACG? I’m not sure if it’s fortuitous or on purpose, I should watch more than do the research and comparison.
